Since its inception, the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has made massive inroads into our everyday lives. Considered by many as one of the most significant inventions after steam engines, industrialization and the Internet, AI has permeated into almost every aspect of modern day life. What was essentially considered as a prominent discipline under the field of computer science has slowly, but gradually progressed into one of the most discussed topics in the 21st century.  

This piece attempts to loosely map the genesis of neural networks, retracing the significant developments in this field and evaluating the resulting implications from its adoption across various domains.
