The pronounced power asymmetries in AI and an uneven distribution of its benefits and harms between the Global North and the Global South necessitate a coordinated approach to international AI governance.

Under the MAP-AI Initiative, we are delighted to announce the release of a joint Civil Society report developed in collaboration with the Global Digital Rights Coalition, the Global Digital Justice Forum, the Global South Alliance, and civil society members of the Gender in Digital Coalition (GiDC), this report documents collective experiences from the inaugural UN Global Dialogue on AI Governance held in Geneva earlier this month.

Our colleagues contributed to Cluster 3 of the report on building safe, secure, and trustworthy AI, emphasising the need for a ‘precautionary approach’ for AI development and deployment.
