Comments on the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025

The Centre for Communication Governance submitted its comments on the Draft DPDP Rules to MEITY earlier this year. While we welcome the move to operationalise the DPDP Act, there are still critical gaps in the draft rules that must be addressed to give effect to the rights of Data Principals. These include questions on children's data, consent managers, notice requirements, exemptions for state agencies, data retention, and other issues.

We hope that the final Rules will address the concerns raised by various stakeholders and notified soon with a clear timeline for their implementation.
