Vidya is a Project Officer at the Centre for Communication Governance. She is passionate about researching on issues related to AI safety, algorithmic bias and AI regulation along with contextualizing the impact of AI on society.
Vidya began her career as a Network Security Engineer at HCL Technologies before pursuing a degree in law from the University of Delhi. She briefly practised as an advocate in Delhi and went on to earn an LLM in Business Laws from the National Law University (NLU), Delhi. During her time at NLU Delhi as a researcher, she contributed to an interdisciplinary project jointly led by IIT Delhi and NLU Delhi, titled “Algorithmic Bias and the Law: An Exploratory Investigation in the Indian Context,” which aimed to develop a legal framework to address potential algorithmic bias within the Indian context.
Vidya has also taught courses to undergraduate (BALLB) and postgraduate (Master’s in Public Policy) students as an Academic Fellow at the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru. Before joining CCG, she worked as a researcher at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, investigating issues related to AI governance. Her co-authored work has been published in Nature Machine Intelligence and presented at the Seventh AAAI/ACM Conference on AI, Ethics, and Society (2024).
