The Centre for Communication Governance at the National Law University, Delhi (CCG) invites applications for research assistants to work in its various projects.

About the Centre for Communication Governance

The Centre for Communication Governance at National Law University Delhi is a leading academic research centre dedicated to working on information law and policy in India. CCG was established in 2013 to ensure that Indian legal education establishments engage more meaningfully with information law and policy, and to contribute to improved governance and policy making. 

Through its work, CCG seeks to embed constitutional values and good governance within information policy and examine the evolution of existing rights frameworks to accommodate new media and emerging technology. CCG’s ongoing work includes privacy and data protection, platform regulation and intermediary liability, and regulation of emerging technologies like blockchain, artificial intelligence.

The work at CCG is designed to build competence and raise the quality of discourse in research and policy around issues concerning privacy, equality, discrimination and digital access and inclusion in the digital age. The academic research and policy output is intended to catalyse effective research-led policy making and informed public debate around issues in technology, Internet governance and information law and policy.

Role

The programme of work for research assistants at CCG is designed to build their competence around research and policy issues in the context of the Internet and emerging technologies in India. CCG is looking for research assistants to engage in the following research work:

  • Policy work: Undertake research to contribute towards CCG’s policy engagements with various government institutions and ministries on key policy issues including data protection, artificial intelligence, intermediary liability, content regulation and Internet governance.
  • Academic research and writing: CCG regularly publishes academic writing on various subjects of information law and policy such as data privacy, platform regulation, artificial intelligence and internet governance. Research assistants will engage in conducting academic research on such issues. 
  • Research projects: CCG has various ongoing research grants and projects around data protection and privacy, platform regulation, artificial intelligence, algorithmic accountability, and Internet governance. Research assistants will contribute research work towards these ongoing projects. 
  • Blog: Develop a research idea, author or support with a post on the CCG blog.

Responsibilities

We want our research assistants to be active participants in building a collaborative, merit-led institution and a lasting community of highly motivated young researchers. All selected applicants will be expected to take substantial initiative, maintain the highest ethical standards in their work, and contribute to the institution’s growth and development. The selected applicants will be a part of cutting-edge research and will learn to work in a team, develop their research, analytical and communication skills, and be exposed to law and policy-making in the technology domain.

  • The research assistantship can be for either a period of 6 months (one academic term), extendable to one year, based on evaluation of work, or for a period of one year (two academic terms). Applicants can indicate their preference for the period of RAship in the Google form. However, the confirmation of the research assistantship will be subject to evaluation of work in the first three weeks beginning from September 1, 2025
  • Research assistants may be called in to work from the CCG offices, a few times a week, during their period of association with CCG. 
  • Work under each project will be designed by the staff at CCG and assigned to each research assistant on a daily or weekly basis depending on the nature of the project they are involved in. 
  • There will be regular discussions and feedback sessions with each research assistant to track the progress on their work and develop the research further. 

Qualifications and Application Procedure

The Centre welcomes applications from 3rd, 4th and 5th year students of the B.A. LL.B. program, students from the Bridge Course, and students from the LL.M. program at National Law University Delhi. Interested applicants are required to fill in the form attached here by 10 PM, August 13, 2025.

1. Curriculum Vitae

2. Expression of interest (300 words)

3. One relevant academic writing sample of up to 1,000 words (essay or extract, published or unpublished)

The application requires the CV, Expression of Interest and Writing Sample to be merged into one pdf file, of not more than 10 MB in size labelled 'Your name-CCG' and uploaded on the form.
