UNESCO and CCG-NLUD organised a Workshop on AI and the Rule of Law for members of the judiciary from India, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka, held at the National Law University Delhi between 6-8 November, 2024. The Workshop was attended by sitting judges and judicial officers at different High Courts in India, Sri Lanka and Nepal, faculty and directors of different state judicial academies, and judges and state attorneys from Maldives and Bhutan.
The Workshop was conducted as part of UNESCO's Global Judges Initiative, which aims to engage with stakeholders within the justice systems in a global discussion on the applications of artificial intelligence and its impact to the rule of law. The Workshop was based on UNESCO’s ‘Global Toolkit on AI and the Rule of Law’, which was developed to train judicial actors on how to ensure that the development of AI reaches its full potential in accordance with the rule of law.
The Workshop was conducted by various subject-matter experts in the domain of AI and law in India. It included sessions on introduction to AI and its uses in the justice sector, Ethics of AI, Impact of AI on human rights and emerging issues in AI and Law.
