Panel Discussion on Platform Regulation and Multi-stakeholderism in South Asia
CCG NLUD and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) hosted a panel discussion on Platform Regulation and Multi-Stakeholderism in South Asia to mark the publication of the report on 'Social Media Regulation and the Rule of Law: Key Trends in Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh’. This report was the culmination of a collaborative research partnership between CCG NLUD, LIRNEasia and the School of Law at BRAC University supported by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS).
The discussion explored current regulatory frameworks in South Asia and considered what a robust multistakeholder approach to platform regulation in the region might entail. It raised questions about the role civil society, platforms, and governments must play to create multistakeholder forums that are inclusive not just in representation but in substantive outcomes.
The panelists included Helani Galpaya, CEO of LIRNEasia; Md. Saimum Reza Talukder, Senior Lecturer, School of Law, BRAC University, Bangladesh; Gurshabad Grover, interim head of ARTICLE 19's Global Digital Programme; Sachin Dhawan, Programme Manager at CCG. The discussion was moderated by Archit Lohani, Project Associate, International Innovation Corps.
