Every year, the Centre for Communication Governance at National Law University Delhi (CCG-NLUD) organises an International Summer School along with the Hans Bredow Institut, University of Hamburg, and the Institute for Technology and Society of Rio de Janeiro (ITS Rio). In the past, we have conducted seven summer schools on contemporary issues of information technology law and policy. This year we hosted the 8th edition of the International Summer School on Platforms and Democracy: Beyond Digital India Act, Marco Civil, and EU Digital Services Act from 22-28 April 2024 at the National Law University Delhi campus.
The Summer School offers participants a unique opportunity to learn from leading experts on emerging legal issues in the tech and policy space. The goal of the week-long annual programme is to bring together a diverse set of scholars, instructors, and students for an intensive series of lectures, discussions, and interactive classroom activities.
This year CCG-NLUD welcomed 33 students from Brazil, Germany and India as a part of the International Summer School cohort of 2024. The lecture schedule included sessions on Platform Architecture and Techno Diversity, the EU’s Digital Services Act, Content Moderation, Platforms and Elections, Platform Transparency, the Facebook Oversight Board, Platforms and Competition, Copyright, AI Ethics, and Platform Work.
The programme also featured a Keynote Address by Justice Rajiv Shakhder, a Sitting Judge of the High Court of Delhi at India International Centre, New Delhi, and an interactive session with officials of the German embassy including the German Ambassador Dr. Philip Ackermann.
International Summer School is supported by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation For Freedom South Asia.
