CCG NLUD organised a closed-door roundtable discussion on social media transparency in the Indian context. As India looks to draft and implement its next set of laws to regulate the internet ecosystem, it must ensure that appropriate transparency mechanisms are included within its laws. It is important to contextualise conversations around transparency to the socio-political, economic and regulatory challenges in India. This roundtable discussion brought together key stakeholders to examine the multiple facets of transparency in the Indian social media landscape. This discussion was particularly timely due to recent developments in the regulatory landscape, including the EU’s Digital Services Act and proposed U.S. bills like the Platform Accountability and Transparency Act.
